Dimple Kapadia, just 15, made her sensational debut in 1974 in Raj Kapoor's super hit movie 'Bobby' where she played the title role. With the release of the movie, she became the new teen sensation and everything from her dressing style to mannerisms were imitated throughout. But even before that, much before 'Bobby' was released, Dimple married the then female heartthrob super star Rajesh Khanna who was 15 years elder to her. Despite her debut film being a hit, Dimple decided to quit the industry and settle down with her newly married life.

But she was to come back after 13 years, in 1987, in N N Sippy's 'Saagar' opposite her previous hero Rishi Kapoor and Kamal Hassan. But her welcome this time was not that sensational. Dimple was no longer the 'Bobby' girl she was a decade back and she received a cool response. This did not discourage her and she continued her tryst with destiny. Lady Luck was yet to smile on her.

She diverted her attention towards parallel cinema and did films like 'Kaash', 'Lekin', 'Rudaali', 'Prahaar' and 'Insaaf'. But she did not limit herself to these films only. She continued doing movies like 'Manzil Manzil' with Sunny Deol, 'Ajooba' with Amitabh Bachchan and 'Ram Lakhan' and 'Gardish' with Jackie Shroff. Dimple started maturing as an actress but she still was known for her gorgeous looks, smoldering eyes and long beautiful tresses.

Her last release was 'Mrityudata' with the Big B, which did nothing much for anyone. There might be a dearth of her movies but she has won many awards so far. She bagged the best actress awards for 'Bobby' and 'Saagar'. She has even claimed the Critics awards for her roles in 'Rudaali' and 'Lekin'. An actress of Dimple Kapadia's ilk come very rarely, stay for a while but leave a long lasting impression !
